I don’t own an oxyacetylene torch anyway.
Epoxy let me do the repair in place over two evenings without removing any heavy parts.

The other reason was cost.
A single tube of quality two-part metal-filled epoxy costs under thirty dollars.
Sending that manifold out to a professional welder would have been three hundred minimum.
And there was no guarantee he’d get penetration into such brittle casting metal.

Surface preparation made all the difference

The old uncleared cement left trace sulfur compounds on the iron near the crack – enough to ruin adhesive bonding if I’d gone straight into filling.
I spent most of my time grinding back four inches beyond each visible hairline fracture with an angle grinder fitted with an abrasive disk designed for contaminated concrete (don’t use disks that say “clean only”).
Then followed up by degreasing twice using lacquer thinner.
